Built of ashlar, it is of rectangular plan with a hipped stone roof and chamfered piers framing recesses with seats set under inscriptions.
WebSelworthy Combe is part of the Holnicote Estate, now owned by the National Trust after Sir Richard Acland donated it in 1944. Holnicote dates back to the Domesday Book, which lists it as “Hunecot” (as it is still pronounced, although the spelling has changed), and it covers some 5042 hectares of woodland, moors and farmland. WebThere are superb views from the top. There are some excellent walks up there with the South West Coast Path also crossing the beacon. At its highest point is a trig point marking 308 metres. Just to the south-west of the trig point, across the road you will find a memorial hut which is a shelter erected in 1878 by the Acland family.
