WebI shall argue that the story of Rostam's seven trials is a tale of transfor-mation that signifies a fundamental change in the hero's role and function in the Shahnama. Going through these trials signals Rostam's coming of age. These trials transform the boy Rostam into a man who replaces his aged father as the chief hero of the court.
